Extra Extra! (Another Addiction: The Newsies)

I'm so excited to be posting again, for in my absence I have discovered so many wonderful things to write about. And today it's.... the Newsies! Now the Newsies is a movie, just one movie, that I happened to see on Starz over Christmas break. And I had to have it, so I searched all over to find it. Unfortunately it's not so easy to find movies from 1992 anymore, but I finally found it at an FYE.

The casheirs eyes widened when he saw my purchase as he said, "I love this movie". (He wasn't quite as pleased with my the Avatar season 2 volume I was purchasing) He then went on to exclaim about how Christian Bale was in it. For those of you who, like me, have no idea who Christan Bale is I looked it up for you, he was in 3:10 to Yuma, the Prestige, Batman Begins, and most importantly the voice of Thomas in Disney's Pochontas.

Anyway, before you get anywrong ideas, the Newsies is not a good movie. It just isn't. It was a notorious box office flop and its understandable why. But the Newsies is amazing in a different way. It's amazing in a way where there's a whole bunch of kids singing, dancing and having excellent slingshot percision, and doing it all with New York accents. It's amazing in away that creates cult followings, infects your brain, and adds sparkle and sunshine to the world.

So the Newsies, you'll like it, even though it's not good, you'll like it.

She's Baaaaack!

Alright so there's been like 4 months since my last post. I'm horrible, you caught me. I was busy! I can't help it! (lies)

However, we have now switched semesters at school, so I will be back to my wonderful blogging once again. So, on the off chance that you have somehow found it in your heart to continue to check my little blog for posts- among my irresponsible bloggy-ness- then you are my hero, insane, and having your lucky day, because I am posting yet again! At least for now (Come on. You all don't seriously still trust me, right?) =]

They Finally Got The Fire Started: Avatar Season 3!

The first episode of Avatar: the last Airbender Book 3: Fire, "The Awakening", finally aired last night.

So I got together with my fellow avatarded friend (she's one of those "secret obsession" type people) and watched it. We were soooooo excited, and after the over 9 months of waiting, we had every right to be.

And I have got to say, it was worth the wait. Not that I would want to wait, or that it would be okay for Nickelodeon to do something so hideous ever again. But the Season is looking supremely awesome.

This is going to be spoiler-y now. So if you haven't watched it yet, what the heck are you doing? Go watch it now! They have it on Turbo Nick for goodness sakes, you don't even have to wait till they air it!

And well of course there's my little nit-picky problems with it. I still haven't adjusted to Zuko not leaving the dark side last season, and MAIKO?!? My poor hardcore Zutara heart just had to cry, "WTF is going on here?"

But even with all that you just know the season is going to be amazing, and you can tell they're pulling out all the stops. Come on, I mean they show us Ozai's face, Aang has hair, and they're bringing back like all of our favorite characters. We saw Yue, the Duke, the Serpent from the Serpent's Pass...

And this is JUST the first episode!

Good Time Music

I love music. Lets be honest, I'm a choir geek with a karioke machine. And when no one's home I dance around and sing at the top of my lungs, actually I do that even when people are home.

So of course I love internet music sites, which give me a chance to try out some songs before buying the cd. (No, I have not yet upgraded to an mp3 player).

Now I know a lot of people are into Project Playlist lately, but I'm totally loyal to Imeem.

'Cause even with the recent copyright nazism that has emerged lately, Imeem still pwns. Plus, it adds some kind of challenge to find good songs that haven't been cut down to a 30 second preveiw.

And I have this ever-changing playlist that is like my brain child. Here taste a hear!

MDA Telethon: 'till we fall asleep, there's a telethon

So I heard that the muppets were going to host a block of Jerry Lewis' MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Telethon this year (though I didn't know what time they would be appearing), and I said "Hey! Telethons sound cool!"

So I decided to watch the whole 21 hour thing, or at least attempt to do such a thing.

Now let me tell you something: Jerry Lewis is old. Really old. So old, that I'm not sure he's competent enough to be on television anymore. He kept forgetting what he was doing and saying things that didn't really make sense. But it's okay, because Jerry cares, and he's the one who started it all.

I have been converted to an MDA supporter, and after all those hour of watching stories of little children who are losing their lives to Muscular Dystrophy, how could I not be?

Also, I'm in love with the MDA Youth Chairman Billy Gilman now, so supporting cause might help. He is a country singer though, but for Billy Gilman, I can bear it. I've never even heard of him before, I'm not much into the country circuit. But Oh! If you would have heard that boy sing on that telethon, you would have fallen in love with him too. And he's so charming! Oh how I love Billy Gilman.

He wasn't the only great act on either; some of my favorites were the guy who one America's got Talent, The people from Grease on Broadway, and the World's Fastest Balloon Animal Maker.

Now the thing is, I stayed up pretty late trying to watch that telethon, but the two hours the muppets were on, I happened to be asleep.

But, you know, it was worth it anyway...

Obsessions Abroad: Baltimore, Oh My Cannoli

Baltimore, land of a million panhandlers, what can an Avatarded Muppet Fan such as myself find to do in such a place? Well first of all she can buy the new LoveCom manga at the Barnes and Nobles, but she can do that anywhere. She might also find "One Frog Can Make A Difference: Kermit's Guide to Life in the 90's" at a used book store, because a true Muppet fan wants to read whatever Kermit has to write, no matter how horribly outdated it is.

Also, she might also lose her sunglasses and a hour of her life to the panhandlers.

But because Baltimore is panhandler city, it also has a plethora of street performers. Really good ones too. In Baltimore I observed street performers in the forms of Singers, Saxophonists, Balloon Animal Makers, Bagpipe Players, Unicycle Riders, and many more. It was sort of like being at a carnival.

All this aside though, the real reason people come to Baltimore isn't for the Science Museum, and it isn't for the Or-li-o's games, and it isn't for the Aquarium, it's for the Cannolis.

Let me tell you, on the first day in Baltimore I spotted Vaccaro's, this little Italian pastry shop, and I knew right away that their cannolis would be amazing. So I made it my goal to get my mother to get me one. And I accomplished that goal. And for awhile I carried it around bragging about how I had a cannoli. And then I ate it. And I was right, it was AMAZING.

Let me tell about cannolis, because they are truly a wonderful food. I still remember the first time I got a cannoli. I was in 4th grade and I was over at my friend Celeste's house and we walked over to the bakery and i got a cannoli. Now I know that story is not that amazing, except for the cannoli. Which is why I remember it, because of the cannoli, because cannolis are really amazing.

And do you know what the German word for cannoli is? Yeah, it's cannoli. It's that amazing.

So if you ever go to Baltimore, go get your cannoli. It will make your trip fantastic, even if the panhandlers do have your sunglasses.

Take that Disney! People ARE into Puppets!

So I had my lovely apology, but I wanted to add a real post too.

Now let me first mention this, I love Disney. I love the movies, especially the old ones where they sang, and every moment I'm not in Disney World is tearing me apart. But, when it comes to muppets, Disney really bugs me.

Ever since they've bought the muppets years ago it's been failed promise after failed promise. Take the muppets 50th birthday, there was going to be a roast for Kermit and he was going to travel to like 50 different places. But there was no roast, and I was so looking forward to it. And as for Kermit's travels, he got to like three places.

Sure there was a few tv guest spots, and the "Muppet Wizard of Oz" special (but Ashanti ruined it by hogging the spotlight with her bad acting.)

But the reason for all of this rant is because of "America's Got Talent".

Not only did the Muppets make one of the best appearances I've seen in a long time, (By the way, I noticed that in this appearance the Sweedish Chef was married) but the ventriloquist won!

I mean, come on, the ventriloquist won! That should be some kind of victory for puppeteers and puppet - lovers everywhere, because that means that the general public enjoyed the ventriloquist. And they voted for him over the beat boxer and whatever those other people did.

So in conclusion....

Dear Disney,
See? People like puppets. There's your proof.
Now will you PLEASE do something with the muppets already?!?

I have been a bad blogger! A very, very bad one. After all those troubles with my computer I just sort of shirked all my blogging duties.

Computer Banishment!

Okay, I'm not really banished from the computer but my internet has spontaneously combusted. You see they were'nt kidding when they told you not to download music illegally from the internet! You may not get arrested, but you WILL be punished for your insolence.

Why? Why did I have to get over confident with my downloading?

I'm on my friends computer now so, untill my internet is fixed, well hope and pray for me...

Ack! I Leave For A Week And...

Don't let the title fool you, this is actually good news. Unless, of course, this is a sign that good things only happen when I don't go on the internet, in which case we are all doomed.

So I went on vacation and upon my arrival home I found great news!

First of all, LoveCom 12 is subbed (I'm downloading it as I type). But I was expecting that.

What I wasn't expecting was the lovely news from The Muppet Newsflash of mini-movies! On the Disney Channel! With Muppets! Happening in August maybe? As long as it actually happens, I'm thrilled. Couldn't be happier.

Let's just hope I can convince my Dad to get Disney channel again....

So I finally got the LoveCom I was waiting for (Oh how I adore Kiss-sub). It would seem that Otani's starting to have an epiphany. Sure, it's slow, but this is what we must come to expect with him. And I must say that I appreciate Otani more and more with every episode I watch. He's just so smiley and awesome all the time, I especially enjoyed the flowers circling his head this episode. Too bad that more people can't be like that, you know?

So anyways, in this episode Risa finds out that Otani's ex-girlfriend broke up with her new boyfriend, and Risa tries to keep the two of them apart. This doesn't go very well, because it seems that everyone is against Risa, except Nobu; who, even if she can't think of any of her best friend's good qualities, is pretty much the best friend any 172 cm girl could hope to have.

Otani's basketball club decided to have another get together. (Honestly I don't see what's wrong with them, nothing for all that time and now their party hungry, they JUST had one last episode.) Unfortunately for Risa, Otani's basketball friends are pretty much evil and like to do nothing better than hooking up Otani with his ex (whom they originally got together). And Risa runs out and cries, cause that's what she does.

After Otani demonstrates, yet again, his amazing "make-people-not-be-mad-by-smiling" powers his ex asks if she can see him again to talk to him, because she can never just talk where she is. Then Otani, in his pinnacle of awesomeness, says (And I quote)

"Well, there's this one hopeless idiot...who'll probably end up crying if I see you again. So... Sorry. I don't think I can do that."

And this is why I love Otani.

It's For Everyone

I've been babysitting my cousins this week, and everyone who knows me knows about my obsessions, especially my Muppet one. Sometimes people accuse me of being obsessed with Muppets, and while this is completely true, I haven't the slightest idea how they figured it out; I don't recall saying anything about Muppets to them.

But anyway, my cousin Eric (who is eight) decided to make a point to me that Muppets were for babies.

Well this is completely untrue! Muppets are for everyone! Some of their material is even more geared at adults if you ask me. Did you ever see any of their early stuff from the Ed Sullivan Show? I have a tape.

Muppet Babies may be for babies, hence the title. Though I believe even that has entertainment value for all ages. I simply adore Muppet Babies. I have a tape.

I've always felt that it was complete rubbish to say things like, "That's only for little kids" and such. Little kids are so happy most of the time, maybe the rest of us should give things for little kids a try. And whose to say that we shouldn't still enjoy the same things as we did when we were younger. I'm the same person I was when I was little. Even if people change, why can't kids and adults enjoy the same things?

Oh well, I suppose this is what one would expect from someone who prefers Nickelodeon and Discovery Kids to MTV. *Sigh*

Resistance! I am not an Anime Fangirl!!

"Fanboy/Fangirl: Noun; Definition: A person who has a compulsive dedication to a video game series, anime series, and/or music artist." -Urban dictionary

Now I guess I must admit that according to this definition I am a fangirl, of many things, including an Anime. But that's just it, I'm a fangirl of AN anime (okay two anime); not all anime.

So maybe I enjoy watching Bleach, and I'm desperately waiting for the new episode of Lovely Complex to be subbed. And maybe I have a "compulsive dedication" to Avatar, which doesn't really count if you ask me (Japanese = Anime).

But these things do not make me a fan of all Anime! There are hard core all anime fangirls out there, mobs of them! I know some people like that, I don't ever know what they're talking about!

I haven't even watched any anime besides these shows.

I have never been to a convention (though I desperately tried to get to San Diego Comic Con). And even if I went I would not cosplay.

And I have not read a Manga -- yet (Sources say July 3rd LoveCom comes out in English)

So as I have told you I am NOT an Anime Fangirl! No, no, no. --Yet at least, I'll get back to you after I read that Manga.

Another Addiction: Lovely Complex

The thing is, I've found out, that people who are addicted to things are very likely to become addicted to more things. Perhaps it's written in their genetic code. And in no way, shape or form am I an exception to this rule.

You see, I thrive on having a bunch of obsessions to entertain myself with.

And my newest and biggest one in a long while is the Anime/Movie/Manga, "Lovely Complex". I came upon the movie about a week ago while randomly searching things on Youtube and I don't know how I ever existed without it. Since then I've watched the movie about four times and each of the 10 episodes subbed by Kiss-sub (My hero of the now) twice.

The basic point of the story is that Risa is a tall girl and can she and Otani, who is short for a guy, be more than a comedy duo and fall in love. And if Otani wasn't so dense and started realizing that bubbles weren't appearing around Risa's face and rainbows popping up behind his head for nothing, than this would no doubt be happening. But that doesn't even hint at the amazingness that is Lovely Complex, and it's pure Golden. So I don't care what kind of reservations you have, give it a try it's amazing.

But I must admit that while both are utterly(udderly hehe) fantastic, you must take the movie and anime as completely different things. With the exception of a few minor characters and Otani (sometimes, sort of) none of the characters act like the same people.

Basically this is a story of a pickled radish turning into a crab. (Nope, can't explain. You'll just have to watch it I guess. :D )

Why Blog?

The world of an Avatarded Muppet Fan is bleak, people. I have been stabbed in the heart by the absence of my two great loves, and even visiting my fellow fans on forums anymore is like getting poked in the eye.

Now you may roll your eyes at me. "Silly Nicole," you may say,"she's such a drama queen, complaining about nothing." Now while I may tend to exaggerate, and though my heart has neither been stabbed nor have my eyes been poked; hear this: As you sit at your computers rolling your eyes and pronouncing me the ruler of a certain genre, I have been waiting for over 6 months, HALF A YEAR for the new Avatar Season.

Yes that's right Avatar season finale was in DECEMBER, and oh how Nickelodeon pushed back the new season through the promised March, April, May. And I STILL don't know when the new season is going to start.

And Muppets are as hopeless as ever....

All there is for me is to hold on 'till I can spend my money on DVDs in August/September (oddly enough Fraggle Rock and Avatar Season sets are being released on the same day)

So what does an Avatarded Muppet Fan do in hopeless times such as these? Be Annoyed? Cry? Get a Life? Spontaneously Combust?

Quite Possibly.

Or, One could blog. One could blog her heart out. Why this helps, I know not, but it sure seems to.
